Commercial Management Trainee / Trainee Quantity Surveyor

About the Role

We are seeking a Commercial Management Trainee to join the commercial team at a Tier 1 building contractor. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone eager to develop their skills and progress to a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor.

As a Management Trainee, you will be involved in the financial management of construction projects, helping ensure their success. This will involve learning to manage costs, working with subcontractors, and assisting with the contractual and legal elements of various projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the management of costs for construction projects, from initial stages to completion.
• Learn and apply the principles of cost management and negotiation.
• Analyse project costs and support financial reporting.
• Select and review suppliers and subcontractors.
• Develop expertise in various types of construction contracts.
• Assist with monthly reporting and contract administration.
• Liaise with clients, suppliers, and the supply chain.
• Assist in the procurement of suppliers and manage site measurements, valuations, and payments.

Key Requirements

• HNC or Degree in a construction-related subject.
• Strong numeracy skills and the ability to learn costing IT packages, including Excel.
• Ability to write clear and precise reports and present findings effectively.
• Self-motivated, with the enthusiasm to learn and develop.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Full driving license, with some travel to sites required across the South West.
