Senior Engineer

We are working with one of the region’s leading civil engineering contractors who have a health order book and pipeline of future work within the South Wales region. They operate multiple long-term frameworks, in addition to delivering sizeable one-off schemes across water, highways, environmental works etc. Due to securing several projects, they require a Senior Engineer to play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of a £30 million project within a 3-year timeframe, based just outside of Cardiff. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, your responsibilities will encompass technical leadership, project coordination, and mentorship of junior engineers. You will be instrumental in ensuring the project’s objectives are met efficiently while fostering the professional development of the team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in civil engineering principles, methods, and best practices throughout all project phases.
  • Collaborate with the design team to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions that meet project requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of engineering designs, calculations, and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring alignment with client expectations and organizational goals.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or delays, and implement mitigation strategies to keep the project on track.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, assisting them in developing their technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional competencies.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, empowering team members to take ownership of their work while providing support and feedback as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and personal growth.
  • Ensure that all engineering activities adhere to relevant regulations, codes, and standards, with a particular focus on quality and safety.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality audits to verify compliance with project requirements and specifications.
  • Implement quality control measures and corrective actions as necessary to maintain high standards of workmanship and construction integrity.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for client communication, providing regular updates on project status, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address project-related concerns, resolve conflicts, and maintain positive relationships.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, reports, and documentation to convey complex engineering concepts clearly and effectively.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Extensive experience in civil engineering projects.
  • Excellent management skills, including the ability to develop and execute project plans, manage budgets, and mitigate risks.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and growth within the team.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members at all levels.
