This national Tier 1 contractor are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior QS to take responsibility for the Groundworks & Civil Engineering aspect of a major project in Newton Abbot.

Working within a larger commercial team made up of other QS’, Senior QS’ and Commercial Managers, you will be expected to carry out general Quantity Surveying duties, working closely with the Senior Management Team and providing commercial assistance throughout the business.

This is a permanent role, offering a salary between £55,000-£65,000 & car package depending on experience.

Our client designs, constructs, and manages purpose-built environments for specialist industries including data, defence, and energy.

They work with the data, defence and energy sectors. Providing laser-focused expertise and experience across the full spectrum of services including:

The Project:

 

The project includes the construction of the Energy Centre, Ancillary Building, Data Centre, and Substation. The data halls and array of secure rooms provide a building total of 16.8MW. Our client are undertaking all the civils elements, including slabs, construction of the Energy Centre and Ancillary block. As Principal Contractor, they are overseeing the whole delivery of the Data Centre.

 

The Candidate:

 

  • Ideally comes from a carpentry background.
  • Lives locally to the area and has a clean UK driving license
  • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in a Finishing Manager or similar role within construction, preferably on data centre or large-scale commercial projects.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of construction finishing processes, materials, and quality standards.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple trades and subcontractors, ensuring timely and quality delivery of finishing works.
  • Meticulous in inspecting and managing the final quality of all finishes.
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues on-site effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to project schedules.
  • In-depth understanding of HSE regulations and best practices, particularly related to construction environments.
  • Familiarity with project management and construction software tools (e.g., MS Project, Procore, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate all finishing trades, including painting, flooring, joinery, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), and any other required works.
  • Ensure that all finishes meet the required specifications, standards, and client expectations. Conduct thorough inspections and address any snags or defects.
  • Liaise with subcontractors to ensure timely and quality completion of finishing tasks. Resolve any site-related issues or bottlenecks.
  • Monitor project timelines and ensure finishing activities are completed on schedule. Coordinate with the project team to align with overall project deadlines.
  • Ensure that all finishing activities comply with local safety regulations and company health and safety standards. Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Maintain communication with clients and stakeholders, ensuring any concerns or requirements related to finishing are addressed promptly and satisfactorily.
  • Manage the snagging process and ensure all identified issues are rectified prior to handover. Oversee the final handover process, ensuring a smooth transition to the operations team or client.
  • Maintain accurate records of finishing works, inspections, and quality reports. Ensure all required documentation is prepared and submitted at key project milestone

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated RC Frame Site Manager to work on a new build hospital project in Cardiff. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in managing RC frame projects, strong leadership capabilities, and a focus on delivering high-quality work on time and within budget.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the RC frame project, ensuring all activities are aligned with the project plan, scope, and timelines.
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractors, site engineers, and workforce to ensure smooth project execution, quality control, and safety compliance.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with the company’s health and safety policies and procedures, conducting regular safety checks and toolbox talks.

Key Requirements:

 

  • Proven experience as a Site Manager on RC Frame projects, ideally with medium to large-scale developments.
  • Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete frame construction techniques, methods, and best practices.
  • Relevant qualifications in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related fields (CIOB, SMSTS, or equivalent certifications are desirable).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills with the ability to motivate teams and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • A comprehensive understanding of UK building regulations, health and safety protocols, and industry standards.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Finishing Foreman to join our team for a major highways scheme in South Wales. As a key player in ensuring the final stages of the highway project are delivered to the highest quality standards, you will oversee the finishing works, manage on-site teams, and ensure that all tasks are completed on time and to specification. The role will require a strong background in civil engineering projects, particularly in highway construction, and the ability to manage multiple subcontractors and labourers.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage the completion of all final construction stages, including surfacing, kerbing, drainage, barriers, road markings, signage, and landscaping, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Inspect all finished work to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and industry standards. Ensure that quality benchmarks are adhered to for a defect-free delivery.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of direct labour, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely and efficient execution of works.
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations on-site, including conducting regular safety briefings and inspections.
  • Work closely with the Site Manager and Project Manager to ensure all finishing activities are in line with project timelines and budget.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, with a focus on highways or large civil engineering projects.
  • Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields (NVQ Level 6/7 or equivalent). SSSTS or SMSTS certification is required.
  • Strong understanding of finishing works, including surfacing, kerbs, drainage, and general highway construction activities.
  • Proven ability to manage site teams, subcontractors, and liaise with other project stakeholders.
  • Health & Safety: Comprehensive knowledge of construction site safety regulations, with the ability to enforce them effectively.

You will primarily be responsible for assessing and estimating the costs involved in construction projects both housing and civils.  Working closely with the wider team, you will ensure accurate and competitive estimates are provided.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct quantity take-offs and accurately estimate material, labour and equipment costs for multiple projects.
  • Participate in bid meetings, negotiations and attend all pre-let meetings.
  • Review project plans, specifications and other documentation to understand the project requirements.
  • Research and analyse the market trends, material costs and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.
  • Maintain accurate records of a estimates, bids and project documentation.

Candidate criteria:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Construction estimator or similar role in the construction industry is essential.
  • Must have a strong understanding of construction methods, material market and negotiation techniques.
