Senior Health and Safety Advisor

Our client is an award-winning and highly reputable main building contractor in the Gloucester area.

Having been established for over 50 years they have built an excellent reputation not only for carrying out quality projects but for looking after their staff. They have very low staff turnover and are genuinely a nice company to work for.

Due to ongoing growth, they have approached us to recruit an experienced HSQE Advisor on a permanent basis.

Reporting to the group HSQE Director, your roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out regular site inspections / Audits checking policies and procedures and HSQE objectives are being properly implemented.
  • Engage employees to promote, coach and educate the company HSQE policies and practices and ensure that they are adopted.
  • Maintaining and developing safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.
  • Developing practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, of promoting health and safety and safe working practices.
  • Implementing and training teams in the use of HSQE Software.
  • Preparing health and safety strategies and developing internal policy
  • Completing risk assessments and implementing risk reduction control measures.
  • Self-development, as per company performance management and CPD framework.
  • Engaging with managers and teams to eliminate conflict between production, site and client considerations.
  • Assisting with in-house training with managers and employees about HSQE issues and risks.
  • Keeping records of inspections, and findings and producing reports that suggest improvements.
  • Attending an institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars and reading professional journals.
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with mandatory regulations.
  • Producing reports, newsletters and bulletins.
  • Carrying out accident investigations on site and producing subsequent reports and recommendations.
  • Ensuring the safe installation of equipment.
  • Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.

Our client is looking specifically for someone from a Construction background with the following skills and experience:

  • IOSH, and NEBOSH qualifications.
  • Previous experience in Health, Safety and Environment at Senior Advisor level.
  • Demonstrable competence in the implementation of short to medium-term improvement plans.
  • Proven leadership skills particularly in the management of change.
  • Proactive attitude and approach.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise your workload.
  • Ability to Travel / Current Valid Driving Licence.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Good reporting and writing skills.
  • Proactive Digital and IT software skills
  • Must have effective influencing and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Must have experience of supporting line managers in discharging their health and safety responsibilities.
