I’m seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Control Assistant to join a renowned global contractor for an exciting £300m healthcare project in Cardiff.
This is a permanent role, offering the opportunity to play a vital part in ensuring the highest quality standards are met throughout this large-scale healthcare development.
As a Quality Control Assistant, you will support the quality control team in managing and monitoring the quality of construction works and materials. You will be involved in inspections, audits, testing, and reporting to ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the quality control process for the £300m healthcare scheme in Cardiff, ensuring that all works meet specified quality standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify the quality of materials and workmanship, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety requirements.
- Support in performing testing of construction materials and components, documenting results, and reporting any non-compliance issues.
- Assist in maintaining comprehensive quality control documentation and records for auditing and project reporting purposes.
- Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, and the project management team to ensure consistent quality across all aspects of the project.
- Identify quality issues or discrepancies and work with the quality control team to implement corrective actions.
- Ensure that all quality standards, health, safety, and environmental regulations are adhered to throughout the construction process.
- Support in the preparation and review of quality management plans, inspection reports, and certification.
- Monitor and track the progress of quality assurance activities and help in preparing progress reports for senior management.
Key Requirements:
- Previous experience in a quality control role within the construction industry, ideally on large-scale projects (healthcare sector experience is a plus).
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and address quality-related issues quickly and effectively.
- Familiarity with construction quality standards, material testing, and inspection procedures.
- Knowledge of UK health and safety regulations and construction industry best practices.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction software (e.g., Procore, Asta Powerproject) is a plus.
- A degree or relevant qualification in Construction, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Ability to work well within a team and in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The client:
Established in 1982, our client has gained experience in completing large and prestigious projects ranging from external structural framing systems to interior finishes. They specialise in suspended ceilings, acoustic wall panels, ceiling rafts, plastering, rendering, insulated render, rain screen cladding and exterior suspended ceilings. They carry out work on schools, universities and student accommodation.
The Candidate:
- Degree qualified (preferred but not essential)
- Ideally resides locally in the area
- Full UK driving license and access to their own vehicle
- Experienced in civils or construction
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Internal finishing experience (preferred)
- Excellent Communicator with strong presentable skills
- Able to form constructive working relationships with colleagues, suppliers and clients
- Ensuring application debtors are minimised and prompt Final Accounts are settled.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Submitting Applications for Payments to clients.
- Visiting sites for valuations/variations and meetings as required
- Management of site-level change management
- Change management, compiling change notices, evaluation and agreement
- Securing payments from the customer within the specified contract terms

The Quantity Surveyor will support project leaders in generating a high standard of service delivery, achieving successful outcomes, capturing and sharing knowledge across projects and enhancing our culture of innovation.
The role holder will manage contract administration, risk management, and negotiation effectively to deliver the agreed profitability and cash projections, inform line management, and seek guidance as and when required.
Key Accountabilities:
- Communicate and liaise with the system sub-contractor.
- Ensure commercial compliance with current contracts, protecting the position of the company.
- Report to the Commercial Manager/ Project Director and other appropriate stakeholders about the subcontract status.
- Assist senior staff in pricing variations – this will not just be mechanical and electrical scope.
- Support the Commercial and Contract Managers with monthly project cost reports and progress reports.
- Provide provision, when required to the rest of the team on managing other subcontract lifecycles, participating in procurement, tendering, contract administration, variations and work packages management.
- Measurement of quantities.
- Preparation of monthly financial statement of anticipated Final Account detailing the status of variations (budget, submitted, agreed), in conjunction with project management.
- Assist with monthly work-in-progress reports in conjunction with project manager/ project director.
- Lead by example as a role model for Sacyr’s values and professional standards
- Manage delegated resources (e.g., budgets, equipment, and contracts) as appropriate, to ensure value for money.
- Be fully aware of and actively comply with Sacyr’s policies and procedures relevant to your own responsibilities and to corporate policies and procedures including equality, sustainability and the environment, health and safety and data protection.
- Additional duties associated with the role are determined by management.
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
- 4 years of post-graduate experience in a similar role
- Previous NEC contract experience (NEC3 or NEC4 option C)
- Demonstrable negotiation and presentation skills
- Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise work to deadlines and pay attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and organisation ability combined with good problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively analyse and communicate complex ideas and information to a range of audiences and stakeholders.
- Familiar with IT software in particular the Microsoft suite; including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word.

The role of the Site Supervisor will report to the project’s Works Manager. Will be to coordinate construction operations and oversee workers within their package of works. The role holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of their works package and for ensuring work is carried out safely in accordance with the latest drawings, specifications, and programmes.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with the workforce, supply chain and other stakeholders to assist in achieving both the projects and corporate health and safety targets and objectives.
- Ensure that those employed on their work packages have the requisite levels of competency to undertake their roles and tasks.
- Lead supervisory meetings and forums for their own work packages and keep their workforce and supply chain updated with current information and requirements.
- Ensure that their work packages are conducted in accordance with the Company’s procedures and standards and that safe systems of work are produced and approved prior to starting work.
- Manage the use of appropriate plant, tools, and equipment, ensuring that they are fit for purpose and inspected, maintained, and quarantined as appropriate.
- Manage the supply chain within their work packages on a daily basis, coordinating their works and interfaces.
- Coordinate material and equipment deliveries and waste management.
- Undertake health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance checks.
- Ensure that emergency response resources are readily available and that workers understand the requirements of the emergency plans.
- Implement any improvement actions and lessons learned identified during audits, inspections or incident investigations.
- Ensure that all incidents are reported appropriately, assist with incident investigations and preserve environments, locations or evidence that may be needed for incident investigation.
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum experience of 5 years in a similar role;
- CSCS card – Supervisor (Gold) or Manager (Black)
- CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection card (if inspecting Basic Scaffolding)
- CITB Site Manager Safety Training Scheme SMSTS qualification
- CITB Temporary Works Supervisor qualification
- Relevant experience and knowledge of the nature and complexity of the work they are being appointed to supervise (e.g. earth support, scaffolding, formwork, falsework, etc).
- CPCS or NPORS Crane/Lifting Supervisor card
- Relevant experience and knowledge of the nature and complexity of the lifting operations they are being appointed to supervise (basic, intermediate or complex lifts with tower cranes, mobile cranes or non-cranes (excavators, telehandlers, hoists, MEWPs, etc)).
- Relevant experience and knowledge of the nature and complexity of the plant and equipment operations they are being appointed to supervise.
- Relevant experience and knowledge of the nature and complexity of coordinating plant, vehicle and pedestrian movements they are being appointed to supervise.
- Relevant experience and knowledge of the nature and complexity of the types of works at the height they are being appointed to supervise (e.g. on or from scaffolding, hoists, towers, low-level platforms, rope access, etc).
Desirable Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
